Built for pastured poultry
-
Ideal for starting or scaling
A simple build with a low initial cost, so you can start a pastured poultry business with one coop and test your market. As demand grows, add more coops or choose a longer one, up to 480 laying hens or 640 broilers per coop.
-
Built strong
A robust frame of 60 mm steel pipe, built to take daily moves on pasture.
-
Quick to move
It sits on skids and is pulled by a tractor or other vehicle. A move takes a few minutes, so the coop can go to fresh grass every day and manure doesn't build up in one place.
-
Walk in standing up
The door is 130 × 200 cm. You can walk in upright with a feed sack or two buckets and see the whole flock.
-
Sheltered, with airflow when you need it
A white, high-quality plastic cover shelters the flock from rain and sun. Roll-up sides open for fresh air on hot days.
-
Can stay closed when needed
If a bird flu housing order or wet ground keeps the birds off pasture, the coop can stay parked and closed. With a thick layer of wood chips on the ground, it can also be used for winter housing, if your local authority allows it.
How it differs from coops on wheels
-
Lower cost per bird
The frame is steel pipe with a plastic cover. There is no chassis, axles or floor, which keeps the cost per bird down.
-
Few places for red mites
The coop is steel and plastic. You can fit it out with little or no wood, which leaves red mites few places to hide.
-
Fewer parts to break down
There are no tyres, axles, brakes, hydraulics or electrics. The frame, cover and roll-up sides are the only parts to look after.
Capacity by length
| Length | Floor area | Laying hens | Broilers |
|---|---|---|---|
| 6 m | 30 m² | 180 | 240 |
| 8 m | 40 m² | 240 | 320 |
| 10 m | 50 m² | 300 | 400 |
| 12 m | 60 m² | 360 | 480 |
| 14 m | 70 m² | 420 | 560 |
| 16 m | 80 m² | 480 | 640 |
Based on floor area: 6 laying hens per m² (EU organic stocking rate) and about 8 broilers per m² (well within the EU organic limit for mobile houses). The birds live on fresh grass inside the coop, which is moved daily. With portable electric poultry netting around the coop, they can also go outside.

Questions
Is the Hoop Coop a chicken tractor?
It works the same way: a floorless coop you move to fresh grass. Most chicken tractors are small pens for a few dozen birds. The Hoop Coop is a walk-in version for 180–480 laying hens or 240–640 broilers.
How many birds fit?
See the capacity table. The figures assume the coop is moved to fresh grass every day.
Can I use it for both layers and broilers?
Yes, the same coop works for either, in separate batches.
How often should I move it?
We recommend moving it daily, and twice a day when needed, so the birds always have fresh grass and the pasture gets time to recover.
Do the birds go outside?
They stay inside the coop, on fresh grass, and the coop is moved daily. If you set up electric poultry netting outside, they can also go out through the main door.
Can it be certified for organic production?
Only if pop-holes are added to the structure. EU organic rules require pop-holes so the birds can go in and out, and the standard Hoop Coop has only the walk-in door. We are preparing a pop-hole upgrade kit. Mention organic in your quote request and we will keep you updated. Your organic control body confirms whether your setup meets the rules.
How do I protect the flock from predators?
We recommend electric poultry netting around the coop, or a hot wire mounted on the coop.
Can I use it in winter?
It is mainly used from spring to autumn. In winter it can be parked and used as housing, with a thick layer of wood chips on the ground. Check with your local authority that this meets the rules for winter housing where you farm.
Does it come assembled?
No. It is delivered on pallets, with assembly instructions.
Can I get a different length?
Yes, other lengths are available on request.
